A Tragic Collision in Tehama County Claims Life of a Young Chico Woman
In a devastating incident on Tuesday afternoon in Tehama County, a 22-year-old woman from Chico lost her life following a severe car accident. The California Highway Patrol has confirmed the event occurred around 1:48 p.m., involving a high-speed collision on SR-99.
Andre Tucker, a 43-year-old resident of Chico, was identified as the driver of a 1997 Ford Expedition traveling southbound on SR-99 at an excessive speed. According to law enforcement officials, Tucker lost control of the vehicle, veering into the opposing northbound lane and colliding with a 2015 Honda Accord operated by Mirna Rodriguez, a 56-year-old from Gerber.
The situation escalated when the Ford Expedition, unable to regain control, collided head-on with a 2012 Toyota Prius also traveling northbound. The Prius was driven by the 22-year-old Chico woman who tragically lost her life in the accident.
Following the incident, Tucker was apprehended and taken to Enloe Medical Center for a medical evaluation. Upon receiving medical clearance, he was incarcerated in the Tehama County Jail. The charges against him, as listed on the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office’s booking sheet, include driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs causing injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Mirna Rodriguez was also transported to Enloe Medical Center, where she received treatment for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
The young Chico woman was declared dead at the scene. Authorities are currently investigating the crash, with initial findings suggesting that alcohol and drugs played a significant role in the causation of the accident.
The roadway was temporarily closed due to the collision but was later reopened at 4:40 p.m.
