Two individuals lost their lives and another was hospitalized on Tuesday evening after a collision occurred on a notorious stretch of road in the Porter Ranch neighborhood of Los Angeles, a location infamous for its speeding and severe accidents.
The incident was reported shortly after 11:15 p.m.
According to authorities, a gray BMW heading north on Tampa Avenue collided with a white Toyota that was executing a left turn onto Atlanta Avenue, just below Chatsworth Street.
Local residents, alarmed by the sound of the crash, hurried to assist the victims, only to discover two individuals confined within the Toyota. Emergency responders utilized the Jaws of Life to remove the unidentified men, both estimated to be in their 50s, but sadly, they were declared deceased at the scene.
The BMW's driver, identified as a 20-year-old male, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries deemed not life-threatening, reported a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The crash is not believed to have been influenced by drugs or alcohol, according to investigators.
This accident took place in an area notorious for its hazardous crashes, frequently attributed to street racing or excessive speeding. However, officials suggest that Tuesday's tragedy was likely the result of a misjudgment.
Sgt. Jodie Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department remarked, "There are no stop signs. There are no lights. There’s nothing right here. So, when someone makes a left-hand turn, they’re thinking it’s going to be safe… they misjudged it and unfortunately, this is what happens."
Tampa Avenue was temporarily closed for investigation but was reopened around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
