A driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint in Lemon Grove resulted in two arrests on Saturday, according to authorities. The checkpoint was conducted from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. near Broadway and Kempf Street, Sgt. William Price of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported in a press release on Monday. During the operation, a total of 257 cars passed through the checkpoint, and 29 of them were sent to secondary evaluation. Six DUI evaluations were conducted, leading to two arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. No arrests were made for driving under the influence of drugs. Price noted that DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of crashes related to impaired driving. The primary goal of these operations is to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads. Deputies also ensure that all drivers have proper licenses. Citations were issued to eight drivers for violations unrelated to DUI. Seven were cited for driving without a license, and one driver was cited for not having their driver’s license with them.
