Tragedy in Irvine:
Two motorcyclists lost their lives in an overnight crash on the 5 Freeway in Irvine, California, according to authorities. The accident occurred in the northbound lanes, just south of Culver Drive, shortly after midnight.
Although details about the crash are limited, witnesses reported that the two motorcyclists were part of a large group riding on the freeway. As a result of the accident, all northbound lanes were closed for approximately four hours before being reopened.
While officers were attending to the scene, another driver rear-ended a California Highway Patrol (CHP) vehicle. It has not been confirmed whether anyone was injured in this second incident or if any arrests were made.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding both the main accident and the secondary crash. This tragic event underscores the importance of caution on freeways, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced, and the risk of accidents can increase.
