Crash in Fresno:
COALINGA, California — A one-year-old boy died following a tragic car accident in Fresno County on Thursday morning. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a call about a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 5:14 a.m. on Highway 5, near the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area.
According to authorities, the driver was heading southbound at approximately 58 to 60 miles per hour, approaching the on-ramp to the rest area. However, she failed to notice the curve in the road, continued straight, and drove off the road into a grassy area not connected to the freeway. This caused her vehicle to crash head-on into a tree.
A witness to the accident immediately approached the car to perform CPR on the one-year-old boy who was in the vehicle. Despite their efforts, the child was transported to the hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead while en route.
The driver and a three-year-old boy, who was also in the car, were rushed to the hospital. The driver sustained major injuries, while the three-year-old had minor injuries.
Authorities reported that drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected as factors in the accident.
