Serious Accident on US-101:

Early this morning, a serious car accident occurred on US-101 North at the intersection with Herrick Avenue in Humboldt County. The incident involved a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver, operating a 2014 Ford truck, collided with a bridge support pillar while heading southbound in the northbound lane at approximately 70 mph. The crash, reported at 4:38 a.m., prompted an immediate response from emergency services. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and a tow truck arrived shortly after. CHP officers closed the northbound #1 lane while firefighters and other responders worked to manage the situation. Witnesses indicated that the driver may have fled the scene on foot following the collision. The vehicle left debris scattered across the northbound lanes, creating additional hazards for early morning traffic. A black Toyota Tundra with its hazard lights on was spotted nearby, reportedly trying to slow down traffic to prevent further accidents. CHP officers on-site coordinated with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Humboldt Tow to clear the wreckage. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
