On Sunday morning, a 60-year-old woman sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Rancho Peñasquitos, authorities reported. The victim, riding a Polygon Entity mountain bike, was heading eastbound in the 13100 block of Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard around 8:40 a.m. According to the San Diego Police Department, an unknown driver in a silver or gray midsize SUV was traveling in the same direction when they swerved to the right and struck the cyclist. The driver then fled the scene. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was rushed into surgery. Police stated that she suffered a significant brain bleed and a neck fracture. Her injuries are considered life-threatening. The Traffic Investigations Unit will handle the investigation.
