A person was hit and killed by a Caltrain in Palo Alto on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on the southbound tracks between the California Avenue and San Antonio stations.
The individual was on the track for unknown reasons when they were struck by a southbound #114 train just before noon. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the approximately 52 passengers on board. Both southbound and northbound trains were halted in the area as police investigated.
Trains were allowed to move through at a reduced speed of 10 mph by 12:22. Passengers at Palo Alto and California Avenue stations were directed to board southbound trains on the platforms until further notice.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Transit Police Bureau, responsible for patrolling the Caltrain corridor, is investigating the incident. The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will identify the deceased once their family has been notified.
