Fatal Collision in Encino
A tragic incident unfolded in Encino as a teenage girl lost her life in a violent crash involving a 14-year-old driver who was reportedly trying to evade police. The collision occurred around 12:15 a.m. when officers noticed a Toyota driving along Ventura Boulevard with its headlights off. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The police did not chase the car, but it crashed into a traffic pole at Ventura Boulevard and Balboa Avenue shortly after.
The vehicle caught fire upon impact, and officers had to use a baton and a fire extinguisher to rescue the victims trapped inside. Two teenage girls were rescued, but sadly, a third victim, also a teenage girl, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 14-year-old unlicensed individual, was taken to the hospital in stable condition, along with an 18-year-old front-seat passenger.
The car involved had been reported stolen by the driver's family the night before the incident. LAPD Captain Jeff Hollis expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, acknowledging the immense pain the victims' families will endure.
