Fatal Crash in Lake Balboa
A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred in Lake Balboa, resulting in the death of a pickup truck driver in his 30s and critical injuries to a woman driving a Lexus RC. The incident took place at the 17300 block of Saticoy Street, near Louise Avenue, at 9:42 a.m. Paramedics, including the Los Angeles Fire Department, responded to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead. The woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The crash involved a blue Lexus RC and a 2021 white Toyota Tacoma, with the truck colliding with a tree and a commercial building, damaging a natural gas meter. The collision did not result in a fire, and LAFD crews managed to stop a natural gas leak. The pickup truck driver was the sole occupant and fatality, while the woman was the sole occupant of the coupe.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by LAPD Valley Traffic Division. SoCalGas crews, along with building and health inspectors, responded to the scene due to damage to a restaurant and the need for a health inspection. An LAFD Hazardous Materials Squad was also called to ensure no pesticide product was spilled from the commercial pest control firm's truck involved in the crash.
No formal evacuation was required, and traffic in the area was diverted during the investigation. LAPD Valley Traffic Detective Jonathan Otrosina and Officer Michael Sison are leading the investigation and urge anyone with information to contact them.
