Yosemite Car Theft
A 28-year-old man from Rancho Cucamonga, California, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for a series of dramatic events that unfolded on December 26, 2022, in Yosemite National Park. The man is accused of stealing a car belonging to a park ranger, which ultimately led to a high-speed chase and a harrowing plunge off a cliff.
According to prosecutors, the incident began when a park employee pulled over to the side of the road to remove a bike from the roadway. Seizing the opportunity, the man allegedly stole the employee's car and embarked on a reckless escape attempt.
The chase took a dangerous turn when the man drove the stolen car onto the Ferguson Slide bridge, going against traffic and eventually colliding head-on with another vehicle. Despite this collision, the man continued driving until he reached the edge of a cliff, where he drove off and fell approximately 200 feet to the bottom of a canyon.
Remarkably, the man survived the fall and was subsequently arrested. He now faces serious charges, including theft of personal property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and fleeing or eluding a police officer. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 13 years in federal prison and fined $510,000.
The incident has drawn attention not only for its dramatic nature but also for the potential dangers posed by reckless driving and car theft. The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the case, highlighting the importance of road safety and the consequences of criminal behavior on the roadways.
