Tragic Interstate 280 Accident
In a tragic incident on Thursday morning, a car traveling on Interstate 280, just south of Trousdale Drive, near Burlingame, swerved for an unknown reason, overcorrected, and ended up flipping into an embankment. The accident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Sophie Lu.
The vehicle involved was a gray Honda sedan that was carrying four individuals. When responding officers arrived at the scene, they found the car had come to a halt against a tree. Tragically, the passenger sitting in the front seat was pronounced dead on-site. As of Thursday morning, the identity of this individual had not been publicly disclosed.
The remaining three occupants were transported to a nearby hospital. The driver reported suffering from minor pains, while the condition of the other two passengers remained undisclosed. However, Lu indicated that their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, with weather conditions being a possible factor. The roadway was reported to be wet at the time of the crash, which could have contributed to the incident.
Fortunately, all lanes on Interstate 280 were reopened around 9:15 a.m., relieving traffic congestion caused by the earlier closure.
