Injured in DUI Accident

An alleged drunk driver is now facing several felony charges following a harrowing traffic accident that occurred late on Saturday night, which left his one-year-old child hospitalized. According to Taft Police, 22-year-old Claudio Roquehernandez was driving under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle collided with two parked cars near the intersection of Lassen and McKinley, just after 8 p.m. The incident took a particularly distressing turn as it was revealed that Roquehernandez had a one-year-old child in the car with him at the time of the crash. The impact of the collision resulted in the infant sustaining minor to moderate injuries, necessitating immediate medical attention. The child was swiftly transported by ambulance to Kern Medical for treatment. Following the accident, Roquehernandez was promptly arrested and is now facing a litany of serious charges. These include two counts of felony drunk driving, felony child endangerment causing bodily injury, possession of an open container, driving without a valid license, and failure to properly secure the child with restraints. Roquehernandez has since been placed in custody at the Lerdo Jail, where he remains held on a bail amounting to $40,314 as of Tuesday. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of drunk driving, especially when innocent children are put in harm's way. The legal process will now unfold, as Roquehernandez prepares to face the gravity of his actions in court.
