Crash Contra Costa County
In a devastating incident on Saturday, one person lost their life while two others were left injured following a head-on collision in eastern Contra Costa County, California.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the tragic accident unfolded around 6:25 p.m. near Clifton Court Road on Byron Highway when a white Chevrolet Silverado, traveling northbound, veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a direct collision with a southbound grey Kia sedan. The driver of the Kia, who was the sole occupant, tragically succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet sustained injuries and was transported by air ambulance to John Muir Health Walnut Creek Medical Center, while a passenger from the Chevrolet, also injured, was taken to the same medical facility by ambulance.
Fortunately, a Hyundai Elantra traveling behind the Kia managed to avoid a serious collision, sustaining only minor damage with no injuries to its occupants. Similarly, a northbound Hummer trailing the Chevrolet experienced minor damage and no injuries to the driver or a minor passenger.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the driver of the Kia, who lost their life, was not wearing a seatbelt properly at the time of the accident, and there is no suspicion of driving under the influence playing a role in this tragic collision. Nevertheless, the CHP has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
