Tragedy in Madera County

Eight people tragically lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision between a van carrying farmworkers and a pickup truck in Madera County. The crash occurred on Avenue 7, west of Road 22, after 6 a.m. on Friday, February. Seven individuals in the van and one in the truck perished in the accident. The van was transporting farmworkers to Lion Farms, with most occupants not wearing seatbelts. The deceased victims were identified as 24-year-old Juvenal Jacobo Talavera, 33-year-old Hector Orozco, 30-year-old Alfredo Morales Sanchez, and 78-year-old Robert Jerry Kovar. The lone survivor, Benito Perez Mundo, is recovering from major injuries at Community Regional Medical Center. Community leaders, including Kerman City Mayor Maria Pacheco, expressed condolences and support for the victims' families. FUERZA, a local community group, is assisting families with support and advocacy, while the Mexican consulate is aiding in repatriating the victims' bodies to Mexico.
