Accident or Attempted Murder:
A terrifying video shows what police are calling an attempted murder on the road.
Folsom Police reported that a driver chased and intentionally rammed his SUV into a motorcyclist at the intersection of East Bidwell Street and Iron Point Road on Tuesday evening. The driver, 23-year-old Anders Erickson from Folsom, is now facing attempted murder charges.
Despite being hit and run over, the police said that the motorcyclist only suffered a broken ankle and minor injuries.
Benjamin Sam, who works at a restaurant on the corner of the intersection, said he heard the crash on Tuesday evening and ran to see what had happened.
"I heard a huge bang and then, instantly, a man with a gut-wrenching scream," Sam said.
Sam reported that bystanders, police, and paramedics quickly rushed to help, while the black SUV remained near the center of the intersection.
"Both of its tires were popped, and the gas was leaking out of the ground entirely," he said.
Sam initially thought it was an accident until he saw the police surveillance video.
"I re-watched it a couple of times because I was completely shocked," Sam said. "I feel like this is a relatively safe area for the most part. So, seeing this is definitely an outlier and kind of a bit of a shock."
It is not clear what led up to the crash. Folsom police said they are not releasing further details as the case is pending prosecution.
